The Jerry Herman Revue
"SHOWTUNE"
FEATURES A PARADE OF HERMAN HITS
ITC will close out its 2011-2012 season with the lively musical revue
SHOWTUNE – a Celebration of the Words and Music of Jerry Herman, opening
Friday, April 13 for a three-week run.
Mr. Herman, creator of such classics as HELLO DOLLY and MAME, is
the most successful Broadway composer/lyricist of the late 20th
century.
Jerry Herman was born in New Jersey 1931.
As a teenager, he fell in love with musical theatre during
summers spent at a Berkshire Mountains camp run by his parents.
After earning a degree in Music from the University of Miami, he
moved to New York City and started playing piano in clubs and
contributing songs to Off-Broadway revues.
Mr. Herman first burst upon the Broadway scene with MILK AND
HONEY in 1961. Then came two
smash hits in a row - HELLO DOLLY in 1964 and MAME in 1966.
His next three shows, DEAR WORLD
(1969), MACK AND MABEL
(1974), and THE GRAND TOUR (1979), were not commercial successes, but in
1983 he was back on top with LA CAGE AUX FOLLES, his third show to run
over 1500 performances on Broadway.
Mr. Herman is the recipient of numerous awards including Tony
Awards, Grammy Awards, the Theatre Hall of Fame Award, and the 2010
Kennedy Center Honors, and has been elected to the Songwriters Hall of
Fame.
SHOWTUNES features all of Herman's best known songs, as well as many
