The Illinois Theatre Center celebrates the season with GFREETINGS, a
heartwarming holiday comedy
By Tom Dudzick, author of the
smash hit OVER THE TAVERN.
The production opens on Friday, December 2 for a three-week run at the
theatre in Park Forest.
GREETINGS tells the story of a young man who brings his New York
Atheist-Jewish girlfriend home to meet his Pittsburgh Polish-Catholic
family on Christmas Eve.
Before the night is out, miracles will happen, and everybody will
question what they actually believe.
The L.A. Times called it "a wonderful, wacky look at how cleverly
a mixture of Christmas, Hanukkah, and New Age philosophy can flick on
the electricity."
Playwright TOM DUDZICK grew up in Buffalo, New York, where his family
operated a tavern. That
upbringing inspired his best known play, the hit comedy OVER THE TAVERN,
as well as two sequels, KING O' THE MOON and LAST MASS AT ST. CASIMIR'S,
and an adaptation set in Ireland, retitled OVER THE PUB.
His other plays include HAIL MARY, DON'T TALK TO THE ACTORS, and
MIRACLE ON SOUTH DIVISION STREET.
Critics have dubbed Mr. Dudzick “The Catholic Neil Simon.”
The Illinois Theatre Center cast features Jeff Award winner Iris
Lieberman, one of Chicago's most popular actresses, who has appeared in
a dozen shows at ITC over the past 30 years.
She is joined by fellow ITC veterans John LiBrizzi, and Robert
McConnell, along with newcomers Jeremy Keene and Lucy Zuikaitis.
The production is directed by Etel Billig
