STOPPARD COMEDY “HEROES” NEXT AT ITC
The Illinois Theatre Center of Park Forest continues its 36th
season with the comedy HEROES by Tom Stoppard.
The production opens Friday, October 28 for a three week run.
HEROES is Stoppard’s adaptation of the French play “Le Vent des
Peupliers” (The Wind in the Poplars).
Set in 1959, it is the story of three elderly veterans of the
First World War who are living out their golden years in a retirement
hospital in the French countryside.
Tired of reminiscing about their glory days and complaining about
the “sadistic nuns” who run the place, they make plans for one last
great adventure.
Tom Stoppard was born in Czechoslovakia in 1937.
His family emigrated to England to flee Nazi occupation.
Since the mid-1960’s he’s been
one of the most prominent playwrights in the English language. He has
won the Tony Award for Best Play four times - for ROSENCRANTZ AND
GUILDENSTERN ARE DEAD (1966), TRAVESTIES (1974), THE REAL THING (1982),
and THE COAST OF UTOPIA (2002).
Mr. Stoppard won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay
for “Shakespeare in Love” in 1998. In
2008, he was named #76 on Time Magazine’s list of the 100 most
influential people in the world.
He was knighted in 1997.
