ITC PRESENTS "INTIMATE APPAREL"

January 28 to February 13, 2011

In New York City in 1905, Esther, a black seamstress sews “intimate apparel” for clients ranging from wealthy white ladies to prostitutes.  Her gifted hands and sewing machine are the tools she uses to fashion her dreams from the whole cloth of her life's experiences.

Kona N. Burks, who made her ITC debut last season in CRUMBS FROM THE TABLE OF JOY, portrays Esther.  Sandy Adell, previously seen here in STY OF THE BLIND PIG, portrays the landlord, Mrs. Dickson. Kevin McKillip is Mr. Marks, the Jewish fabric salesman.  Thurston Hill is George, an immigrant from Barbados.  Candace C. Edwards portrays Mayme, a prostitute, and Calliope Porter is Mrs Van Buren, the young wife of a wealthy older man.

Variety called INTIMATE APPAREL, "A poignant commentary on an era when the cut and color of one’s dress—-and of course, skin—-determined whom one could marry, sleep with even talk to in public."  This extraordinary play comes from the Pulitzer Prize winning playwright of RUINED and CRUMBS FROM THE TABLE OF JOY.

INTIMATE APPAREL runs Friday, January 28 through Sunday, February 13. Performances are Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8 PM, and Sundays at 2:30 & 7:30 PM.  Tickets are priced at $22 on Fri. & Sat., $20 at all other times, with a $1 discount for students & seniors.  The Illinois Theatre Center is located in Downtown Park Forest at 371 Artists' Walk (off Indianwood Blvd., adjacent to Village Hall).  For tickets, call (708) 481-3510.
