"NO WAY TO TREAT A LADY"
MUSICAL CLOSES ITC SEASON
The
Illinois Theatre Center of Park Forest will end its 2009/2010 season
with NO WAY TO TREAT A LADY, a "slightly twisted" musical comedy that's
a crime thriller, a love story, and a satire of mother-son relationships
all rolled into one. The productions opens Friday, April 16th for a
three-week run.
The show is based on the
best-selling novel by William Goldman. It's the tale of Christopher
"Kit" Gill, the son of a recently deceased famous actress. Kit, himself
a failed actor, is haunted by his mother's ghost, who says he'll never
be as famous as she was. He solves that problem by going on a killing
spree, donning a variety of disguises and strangling a series of
middle-aged women. Detective Morris "Mo" Brummel, an NYPD cop with
mother issues of his own, is assigned to the case. Kit delights in
calling the detective to taunt him with hints, and the two develop a
sort of bond.
William Goldman has
had a successful career as both a novelist and screenwriter. "No Way to
Treat a Lady", published in 1964, became a hit movie in 1968, starring
George Segal and Rod Steiger. His other novels which became films
include "Magic", "The Princess Bride", and "Marathon Man". Among his
many screenplays are the Academy Award winning "Butch Cassidy and the
Sundance Kid" and "All the President's Men".
The stage adaptation
of NO WAY TO TREAT A LADY features book, music and lyrics by Douglas J.
Cohen, whose other credits include the musicals THE GIG, THE OPPOSITE OF
SEX, CHILDREN'S LETTERS TO GOD, and THE BIG TIME. The cast of the ITC
production features Peter Robel (last seen at ITC in THE IMMIGRANT) as
Morris, Joe Lehman (BY JEEVES, A YEAR WITH FROG AND TOAD) as Kit, Regina
Leslie as Sarah, and Debra Criche Mell, potraying both men's mothers and
three of the murder victims. The production is directed by David
Boettcher.
NO WAY TO
TREAT A LADY runs Friday, April 16 through Sunday, Ma y 2.
Performances are Wed. through Sat.
