ITC PRESENTS SOLO PLAY “NEAT”
The Illinois Theatre Center of Park Forest will celebrate Black History
Month with the presentation of “NEAT”, an autobiographical one-woman
show written by Charlayne Woodard and performed by actress Inda
Craig-Galvan. The show runs for three weeks, February 15 to March 2.
ITC previously presented Ms. Craig-Galvan in Woodard’s “PRETTY FIRE” two
years ago. That play dealt with events from Ms. Woodard’s childhood.
The follow-up, “NEAT”, depicts the playwright’s teenage years in the
1960’s, including her introduction to the civil rights and women’s
movements, and her relationship with her mentaly challenged aunt,
“Neat”.
Playwright Charlayne Woodard has been a professional actress for 30
years. Her first solo play, PRETTY FIRE (1993), received L.A. Drama
Critics and NAACP awards for best play and best playwright. The
follow-up, NEAT, debuted in 1997. Her third solo play, IN REAL LIFE
(2000), deals with her early experiences as an aspiring actress.
Ms. Woodard made her Broadway
debut in 1978 in AIN’T MISBEHAVIN’. Since then she has performed at
regional theatres across the country. Her film credits include “Sunshine
State”, “Unbreakable” and “The Crucible.” Television work includes the
title role in “Run for the Dream: The Gail Devers Story” and recurring
roles on “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air” and “Law & Order: Special Victims
Unit”. Ms. Woodard was trained at the Goodman School of Drama in
Chicago and is a member of The Actor’s Studio. She teaches solo
performance at the California Institute for the Arts.
Inda Craig-Galvan is a Park
Forest resident. In addition to her performance in PRETTY FIRE, she has
also appeared in the Illinois Theatre Center productions of BLUES FOR AN
ALABAMA SKY and TWO TRAINS RUNNING. Her other Chicago area credits
include roles at Steppenwolf, Chicago Theatre Company, Circle Theatre,
and Metropolis Performing Arts Center. Inda has appeared across the
country as half of the sketch comedy duo “KevINda” with partner Kevin
Douglas, and has numerous film and TV credits.
“NEAT” runs from Friday,
February 15 through Sunday, March 2. Performances are Wednesday thru
Saturday evenings at 8 PM, and Sundays at 2:30 & 7:30 PM. Tickets are
priced at $21 on Fri. & Sat., $19 at all other times. There is a $1
discount for students & seniors. The Illinois Theatre Center is located
