ITC PRESENTS SOLO DRAMA
“INCOGNITO”
The Illinois Theatre Center of Park
Forest rings in the New Year with the critically acclaimed one-man play,
INCOGNITO. In this stunning autobiographical drama, Chicago actor,
director and playwright Michael Sidney Fosberg recounts his search for
his birth father - uncovering a life-altering secret about his
heritage. The Tribune's Richard Christiansen praised it as "an
engrossing and deeply moving trip" and the Sun-Times' Hedy Weiss called
it "a fascinating journey of self-discovery." The production opens
January 5th for a three-week run.
Fosberg describes the creation of his
play this way: “During the summer of 1997, I set off on a road
trip across the country to interview members of my family with the hopes
of writing a book about my journey, my self, and my family. As I
continued to work on the book with the goal of publication, I was
encouraged by my sister to read a few stories at a gathering of friends
held in her Chicago loft during the spring of 1999. The response to the
stories that night was overwhelming, which lead to another reading a few
months later. Once again the reaction to the work was extremely
positive and before I knew it, the book I'd been working on morphed into
a one-man play. The book meanwhile is near completion as I am currently
talking with publishers who have expressed interest.”
INCOGNITO had its world premiere in 2001
at the Bailiwick Arts Center in Chicago. It subsequently played at
Apple Tree Theatre in Highland Park, and Missouri Repertory Theatre in
Kansas City. It has been seen in workshop productions at The Sundance
Institute - Utah, The Egyptian Theatre - Los Angeles, The Mercury &
Goodman Theatres - Chicago, and The Barrow Street Theatre - NYC. It
most recently ran as a part of the Woodstock Fringe Festival in
Woodstock, NY. Michael currently tours the show to high schools and
colleges around the country providing educational support and
discussions surrounding issues the play exposes.
Michael Sidney Fosberg holds a BFA degree
from the University of Minnesota. He founded the Small Change Original
Theater in Minneapolis where he wrote & directed tours of educational
shows throughout the Midwest. In Los Angeles served as the Director of
Education for the Living Library Theatre, and a teacher/director for
South Coast Repertory’s Young Actor’s Conservatory program. In Chicago
he has appeared at Steppenwolf, Remains, Wisdom Bridge, and the Goodman
Theatres, as well as co-founding the Huron Theater Ensemble. During
summer he can be found at Northwestern University, teaching acting &
